Gyeongbokgung Palace

Gyeongbokgung was the main palace during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) and it has a 600 year history. It was built by the founding King of Joseon dynasty, Lee Seong-Gye, in 1395 as he moved the capital city from Gyeseong to Seoul.

Changdeokgung Palace and Huwon

Changdeokgung Palace is composed of public official buildings, the King's residence and a backyard garden. Changdeokgung Palace is the only palace in Korea that preserves the architectural style of the Joseon Dynasty. The garden used to be the king's resting area where 300-year-old trees, a scenic pond and pavilion are harmoniously situated. In addition, in front of Donhwamun Gate, the Royal Guard Changing Ceremonies are reenacted 3 times throughout the day between 10am and 4pm, except on Tuesdays.

Insa-dong

Insa-dong is one of the most popular tourist sites, an area where many shops' precious antiques are on display. It is also usually selected as one of the top five sites to see in Seoul. Within alleys lining Insa-dong, there are galleries, traditional restaurants, traditional teahouses, and cafes. The shops in Insa-dong are very popular among all age groups because each store is unique, but the core of Insa-dong remains the galleries. There are about 100 in the area where you can find many examples of Korean traditional fine arts, from paintings to sculptures. The teahouses and restaurants are the perfect complements to the galleries.

Jongmyo Royal Shrine

Jongmyo Royal Shrine is the worship place for the kings of the Joseon Dynasty. It was built when the first King of the Joseon Dynasty, Lee Sung-Gye (1335-1408) founded the Joseon Dynasty. Jongmyo Royal Shrine is registered as part of World Cultural Heritage because its memorial services and traditional music are so well preserved.

Jogyesa Temple

The Jogyesa Temple is the center of Zen Buddhism in Korea, and is famous for its location within such a bustling city. It is also famous for the gorgeous trees and the timeless, majestic temple buildings. The Jogyesa Temple operates a temple life program for its foreign visitors. It is an opportunity to observe traditional Korean Buddhist temple life. You can learn about various Buddhist cultures such as Chamseon (Zen meditation), Dado (tea cult).

- From Exit No. 2 of Jonggak Subway Station (Seoul Subway Line 1), walk for about 70m and cross the road. Pass by KFC, walk 100m further and take the path to the temple on the left (10 min walk).

National Folk Museum of Korea

The National Folk Museum explores the lifestyle of ancient Koreans. There are 20,000 vestiges and a total of 4,000 folk relics. Outside the museum is just as interesting as the inside. The Jejudo Island sculptures such as Dolharubang, windmills, treadmills, and sheds are displayed outdoors. The National Folk Museum holds a Korean Folk Concert every Saturday at the auditorium and designates the first Sunday every month open to visitors and the admission fee is waived.

Namsangol Hanok Village

You may find Namsangol Hanok village interesting immediately, as it is an old-style historic area that stands between tall modern buildings. This village has restored five traditional Korean houses, including a pavilion and a pond, making it a perfect spot for a scenic walk. On the grounds there are traditional games you may want to try, such as 'neolttwigi' (sea-saw jumping), 'tuho' (arrow throwing) and 'yunnori' (traditional game of throwing wooden yut sticks). In addition, you may not want to miss the re-enactment of a traditional marriage ceremony.

Deoksugung Palace

Deoksugung Palace is famous for its elegant cobble stone road. It is the only one that has western buildings beside it, and it adds to the uniqueness of the scenery. The east wing of Seokjogwan building now serves as a Palace Treasure exhibition, and the west wing is used as part of the National Modern Arts Center.

Myeongdong Cathedral

Myeong-dong Cathedral is the main Catholic church in Korea and is also considered the symbol of Myeong-dong. Because of the grand, magnificent building and its municipal location, many tourists are drawn here. The beautiful interior of this Gothic church in particular attracts many visitors.

Korea House

The Korea House was opened in 1981. It is a traditional Korean building that introduces the culture and lifestyle of Koreans where you can experience the traditional architecture and the classical atmosphere. Namsan Park

Mt. Namsan, at 265m above sea level, is a symbolic mountain located at the center of Seoul. Although not very high, Mt. Namsan is very popular as a resting site. At the top of Mt. Namsan, there are various facilities such as Palgakjeong (octagonal hall), Seoul Tower, Maritime Aquarium, fountains, botanical gardens, and Namsan Library. You may take a cable car to the top or walk up the stairway path. Other than the main path, there are many other walkways to Namdaemun, Hoehyun-dong, Taegyero 3(sam)-ga, Jangchung Park, Itaewon, Huam-dong and much more. The driving courses here are also popular for couples.

Apgujeong Rodeo Street is the heart of Korea's fashion district, formed as a cultural zone with a high propensity for consumption. It features leading fashion trends, customer friendly shops that carry foreign brand names, high quality goods, reasonably priced hip-hop fashion shops, and accessory stores. There are many cafes with unique and fancy interior designs, as well as many Korean, Thai, and Japanese restaurants. Beauty clinics are clustered along Rodeo Street, attracting many youngsters due to this atmosphere. In addition, if you are lucky, you may meet a famous Korean celebrity, as they shop here quite frequently.

Kimchi Field Museum

The Kimchi Museum, founded in 1986 and conveniently located in COEX Mall, displays historical relics related to kimchi, a variety of kimchi, an extensive exhibit on the kimchi-making processes, and information about the efficacy derived from the fermentation process. The Kimchi Museum also holds reference rooms, kimchi-tasting rooms (two different kinds of kimchi are featured each month). It is also possible to purchase good kimchi here, too.

Dosan Park

Dosan Park was built in 1973, dedicated to Dosan An Changho's patriotism. Dosan An Changho's tomb was moved here from Manguri Public Cemetery as well as his wife, Lee hyeryen, whose tomb was moved from Los Angeles. It incudes Dosan An Changho Memorial Hall, Dosan An Changho and his wife's tomb, and their statues. Historical information about Dosan An Changho is available at the Memorial Hall featuring 70 photos, 20 letters, 50 documents and Dosan's diary. Dosan Park is a very beautiful place and has several walking trails, a flower garden, sports facilities, and benches are located around the walking trails.

Museum of Korean Embroidery

The Korean Embroidery Museum was founded in 1976, and is a place where you can view the artistry of women from the Joseon Period. Embroidery is a picture sewn onto leather or cloth using needle and threads. About 1000 works of embroidery by women from the Joseon Period (1392-1910) are displayed. You can see various kinds of embroideries, such as Buddhist embroideries, cloth wrappers, various cloths, and pleated sheets featuring traditional Korean patterns and colors. It is highly recommended for all who want to experience the beauty of traditional Korean embroidery.

Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters)

World Taekwondo Headquarters, or Kukkiwon, was established on November 30, 1972 and is located in the Yeoksam Park. It held the first World Taekwondo Championship in May 1973 including the founding of the World Taekwondo Federation. The building accommodates Taekwondo Academy and World Taekwondo Federation office as well as museum and memorial hall.

Hangang Citizen's Park

This park was created through the "Hangang River Comprehensive Development Project" in the 1980s, covering a huge area that provides for citizens' sports and relaxation. The Citizen's Park is composed of 12 total districts. Each park has own unique characteristics that fit the district. Yeouido, Jamsil, and Ttukseom districts in particular are very popular because of the ferry cruise services on Hangang River. In addition, The Yeouido area is where all the major TV studios are located, so countless dramas use this park for their shoots. Here you can also observe the birds of Bam Isle, a designated ecological preservation area. Ttukseom district is called by many the "mecca" of windsurfing and water-skiing. Hangang River Citizen's Park is also famous for its nightscape.

National Museum of Korea

The National Museum of Korea holds permanent collections of ancient artifacts, historical artifacts, works of art, and Asia-related cultural items totaling approximately 150,000. Korean War Memorial

This memorial is the largest of its kind, dealing with the subject of war in the world. Korea War Memorial holds 8 exhibits: the Hogukchumo, War History, June 25 War, Overseas Dispatched Troops, Military Development, Large Equipments, Outdoor, etc. Besides these, you can also visit the Miniature Exhibit or the Peace Hall. There is a lecture hall at the memorial, and many lectures dealing with war issues are held here as well.

Seoul Tower has been designated a major tourist attraction, offering beautiful panoramic view of Seoul. The 236.7 meter high Seoul Tower built on the 243m Mt. Namsan has been known as one of the best towers in Asia. After 30 years of devoted support from tourists, it was remodeled on December 9, 2005 with a magnificent new look. Hangang River Ferry Cruise -Yeongdeungpo-Gu

Hangang River Ferry Cruise is one of the best ways to enjoy the scenery around Hangang River that flows through Seoul. Bukhansan National Park-Gangbuk-Gu

Mt. Bukhansan is located in the northern part of Seoul and designated as a national park in 1983. The mountain is 78.45km wide, has 6 districts and extends out into Gyeonggi-do. Mt. Bukhansan has smooth curves of large granite rocks which sometimes look as if they could slide down the mountain. The main peak is called Baekunbong, and it has many different kinds of rock formations. From the peak, you can see Hangang River and the citycape all at once.

- Dobong Area: At Exit 2 of Dobong Subway Station (Line No. 1) walk 10 minutes or take bus No.141. (5 minute intervals/ 10 minute ride)
